Home Depot Informative - Return
HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, OHIO -- I returned items with a receipt ($34 on credit card and 87 cents on a store gift card), but was mistakently given a store gift card in return for the whole purchase rather than a credit back to my VISA card and a gift card for 87 cents. The clerk told me she did it right, but when I went to make a $2.14 purchase within minutes, the problem began. Because I used the store card to make a purchase immediately, they would not correct the mistake. Even though the clerk and the assistant manager admitted it was their fault, he would not do anything -- store policy he kept repeating like a broken record. (Good thing it wasn't a $1,000 tractor on a gift card). I offered five suggestions to correct the problem and he refused to hear any of them. He then asked me to step aside so he can help someone else in line. What a jerk! He then asked me twice to leave "his" store. This was in front of other customers. I told him I WILL get my money back and you can have your gift card back. He told me I won't ever see that money, you have a gift card. I told him the credit card company will handle it as a disputed matter. He told me the credit card company won't do anything. It amzes me that a store that spends millions on advertising to attract new customers, will treat loyal and longtime customers like this.
I see on this Web site, something similar happened in sourthern Ohio, too. Maybe it's a Home Depot policy.
