Honda Cars of McKinney Informative - Dishonest Sales People - Car Dealer

Car Dealer
Review by JohnD on 2007-05-01
MCKINNEY, TEXAS -- The same old bait and switch routine by the sales people at this dealership. Some real sleaze bags at this place. When they quoted a price they added on a lot of accessories and tried to say that these accessories had to be purchased and that the car would not leave the lot without them. I could go on and on but the point is these people from the sales person all the way up lied through their teeth. These folks can not be trusted.

For your complaint to have merit you must state what accessories you are refering too. Honda dealers are allocated vehicles with little to say about what factory options are installed, but if they are dealer installed options that is a different story.

Point taken. The items that I am talking about would not be accessories under that definition, they would in fact be dealer addons. They were paint sealer, fabric sealer, pin stripes, mud flaps, one or two more items that I do not recall off the top of my head. Adding up close to $3000.00 on the price of the car. For instance the paint sealer is nothing more than a wax job and they want $500.00 for that alone. There was a large class action law suite in Houston back in the 90's where 14 dealers got sued for this kind of action. You would think the auto dealers would learn by now that it pays to be honest to the public. But then maybe it doesn't pay as well being crooked...they keep doing it.

LOL!!! Ah the old "appearance package" add on (man those were fun memories). With the possible exception of the mudflaps all the items you mentioned are dealer installed. Cost of the items are as follows give or take a few dollars. Paint sealant is $20.00, fabric protector $20.00, pinstripping $10 - $40 , Door edge guards, you did not say but I would suspect they are one of the items you could not remember, $2.00. Practically every dealer in business does this technique to some degree. This allows the dealer some negotiating room as alot of consumers think there are 40% markup in cars (actual markup depends on model but ranges from 3 - 12%).

The easiest way to negotiate on a car is to agree on a fair profit for the dealer to make and add it to the FACTORY invoice. i.e. $500.00 over invoice etc (the entire negotiation should take less than 5 minutes). Pay no attention to any dealer add ons (if they want to include them for free, fine, otherwise move on). A dealer is not obligated to sell a car, just as the consumer is not obligated to buy. As I do believe your post has merit, There are way to many dealers out there to get upset if a dealer and you do not come to terms, just move on. Good Luck

P.S. you were not looking at one of the Hybrids were you??????

We were not looking at any Hybrids. On this particular deal they were saying the pinstripes were going to be $300.00 and the flaps were $90.00. Oh yeah, then the salesman said "YOU WONT BE LEAVING HERE UNLESS THOSE OPTIONS OR ON THAT CAR"!
So at that point we told them to shove it. Back in the 70's and part of the 80's I worked as a service writer and went on to teach career technicians for Ford and then went and taught for Harley Davidson. So I can't say I was surprised but I can say that this particular dealership has some sorry policies. After looking around a bit I discovered that the guy that owns this particular place is Rick Hendrick Automotive group. The same guy that had to be pardoned by President Clinton for mail fraud. That may be who set the standards here. So I understand that not all dealers are ripoffs, as not all sales people are crooks, and I do understand that it is very difficult to make a living selling cars. However words have substance and meaning, and when a dealer ship allows one of their representatives to get by with this kind of twisting of words and their meanings then in my humble opinion it is clear where the dealership stands. Times are hard enough for hard working folks. They don't another sock in the money eye.

I have to agree. I was just up there based on a COSTCO referral. I told the guy I only had a limited amount of time and wanted to get their final prices and a trade-in on mine. They refused to give me a trade in figure and stated they would only do so if I was "ready to buy that day". Making it impossible to compare. They showed me the kbb figures on my car which vary by thousands. They wanted me to make a decision based on this. I drove an hour to be treated like this.

Just like Vandergriff....I won't return to these jokers.

Keep driving past Honda Cars of McKinney if you are looking for a new car. They think the MSRP is a 'great deal'. They lie, fudge numbers, misrepresent, etc. I know these are the worst of the worst. I would like to save you an experience like mine.
