Netgear, Inc. Informative - Bad Service - Wireless Router

Review by Overpar3 on 2007-05-04
GREENVILLE, SOUTH CAROLINA -- NETGEAR may have the worst customer service I have ever recieved. I had a product that was barely 2 months out of warranty and they wanted to charge me over half of what the product cost to help me to get it working again! I was told by the rep on the phone, who could barely speak english, that I could not speak to his supervisor because his supervisor was not there. It might have been different if this was the first trouble I have had out of the product but is is not, I have had several problems with the product. This one just took the cake. I will never ahve another NETGEAR product again.

But... it was OUT of warranty. What did you want them to do?

I see their charging for repair of an item out of warranty--whether two months or two years. It's something you'll have to decide for yourself--is it more economical to do the repair or buy a new product.

Every good company offers after warranty assistance, especially if it is close to being within warranty. I wasnt looking for them to replace the item. I dont even know that it needed to be sent off for repair. I just wanted some technical assistance on how to troubleshoot the thing. Did I fail to mention that the product was not even 1.5 years old? This is something NETGEAR has decided, they could have spent 5-10 minutes troubleshooting the thing and either got it working or said it was fried. That would have been fine with me. I would have had no compalints. Instead they spend 15 minutes going back and forth with me on the phone and loose a customer for life over it. Which route makes better business since to you? Like I said if this was an isolated incident with this company or this product you would have never heard from me, but this is about the 3rd or 4th time within the past year that I have had trouble with the product.

Only once have I had to call Netgear. It was a chore just to understand the guy. After 20 minutes of hearing a script being read to me I gave up. There are a number of excellent user forums out there especially DSLREPORTS where friendly and knowledgeable help is freely available.
