Olympus Complaint - $500 and No Picture Card - SP-550UZ

SP-550UZ - Complaint
Review by CJGirone2001 on 2007-05-07
SOUTH CAROLINA -- I just spent almost $500 on a new Olympus SP-550UZ camera (does not include accessories). When I got home and opened it, I discovered it comes WITHOUT a picture card! Fortunately I had a spare. For that kind of money, I don't think it is unreasonable to include it with the camera!

Just about every digital camera I have seen for sale comes without a memory card. If it does, it's something like a 16MB card that holds half a dozen shots.

You should have read the box for the list of accessories that are included in the box.

My guess is it has some small internal memory... My parents bought a Kodak that didn't come with a card, but it had 32 MB built-in memory.

MRM, that makes too much sense.
Therefore, it is not logical.

And every new car should come with Michelin tires. From what I have found, most cameras either include a small memory card, as previously noted, or no card at all, and the price is irrelevant.

For all the wise guys out there, there is a picture (along with the other pictures on the "list of accessories") on the box that shows the "xD-Picture Card" logo (along with the logos of other features)which would lead any reasonable thinking person that one was in the box!

CJ, no it wouldn't. It would lead me to think that it is compatible with xD cards.
Posted by CJGirone2001 on 2007-05-07:
And because it had the "18x" logo or 7.1 (pixels)logo, or a picture of the camera on the box, does that mean its included or it is compatible????

CJ, if you're not satisfied with the product you have just bought, then return the camera or exchange for another camera that INCLUDES a memory card. Please dont argue on this thread just because you werent aware whether or not a memory card is included in the box. Now you know the next time to read the box label before buying the product. Toodles...

The point of this post was for $500 you would think they would include a $20 memory card!

CJG, those are FEATURES. The type of memory card it takes is a feature.

According to another review I read, this camera does have internal memory:

Internal memory plus xD-Picture Card slot

Which means you can use it without a card... but I'm sure it doesn't have much memory... Probably 32-64 MB I would guess.

Curious, did you buy it online from a discount outlet? These places are notorious for getting gray market versions of cameras without the standard accessories (like a card or instructions). They advertise these versions very cheap, then up sell you on stuff it should have come with from the start.

My 1k nikon didn't come with media, I had to buy it separate. What's the big deal? Do a little research next time before you buy.

It wasn't my intent to make it a big deal, it was simply meant as a heads up for those who don't buy these cameras on a daily basis and may not know all the details. Forgive me for being so intellectually challenged; how could I have been so stupid!
