Pontiac Complaint - Defects? - 1999 Grand Am

Review by marysexton28 on 2002-04-21
LILBURN, GEORGIA -- My 1999 Pontiac Grand Am has been back to the service dept. 9 times. 5 times for engine noise(squeaking, ticking), 4 times for tail lights blowing, brake rotors, seat motor, window scratching, window motor, door panels, 3 batteries, and 2 oil leaks, now 4000 miles out of warranty, they have found the problems. Needs new alternator, power stering pump, intake gasket manifold, radiator hose, valve cover gaskets, serpentine belt, window motor, window glass, at a cost to me of $3000.00. NHTSA has a site with over 500 complaints on this car. Baranco Pontiac was willing to make a deal, GM to pay 50/50 for repairs, or trade the car in. I wanted to trade in. Mr. Baranco called to tell me that the cost to repair and the rebates I would be getting cancelled each other out. Unless I had some money to put down he couldn't help me. As of right now I have a car that I am paying $350.00 a month for and can't drive. Any suggestions?

I'd research and see if your state has any kind of "lemon law". In some states, if you buy a car that has that many problems... the manufacturer is required to take it back if you don't want it any more.

Call your Attorney General and see what they think: 404-656-4585 for Georgia (I looked up the number on this website)
