Barton G Informative - Arrogant attitude - Restaurant

Review by miamitraveler on 2007-05-10
MIAMI BEACH, CALIFORNIA -- I had the opportunity to dine at Barton G in Miami recently when attending my son's wedding. I went on a Tuesday evening and dined under a covered patio where I enjoyed a wonderful meal and magical dinner presentation.

I enjoyed the first evening so much, I took a large group of family members the following Sunday. We were seated at a table on the patio that was uncovered except by the canopy of large trees. As we were looking at the menus, a bird dropped a large "deposit" on one of my guests menus (which splattered over his napkin and silverware). The waiter came up from behind, threw a napkin on the table and acted as though it was no big deal. We had to ask for new silverware and water and really expected to have the tablecloth changed but the waiter saw no need for this. The unbelievable part was that this happened two more times (in his hair this time and in his entree). We voiced our disgust and concern about the table (by then my dining companion had lost his appetite)but were told this NEVER happened and was just an unfortunate night. However from the way it was handled we were pretty sure this is a regular occurrence at the restaurant. I suggested that umbrellas would be a good solution to this problem to protect the guests but was told they were too expensive and that the wind would blow them away. The whole attitude from the restaurant staff (including the manager) was arrogant and dismissive. After spending almost $900.00 on dinner I would have thought there would have been better customer service however there was none. My suggestion would be if you plan on visiting Barton G in Miami and are seated on the patio, make sure you and your guests bring a rain coat and umbrella, some of their presentations are a little over the top....

Looks like your friend had an unlucky day, with all those guests there he was the only one that was pooed on.

I've been dropped on by birds before, but never when I was trying to force down OVERPRICED food...$900.00 for dinner, did you have a very large party?

I once ate at Seaworld in San Diego and a bird stole my entire sandwich! I went back, but I never set my sandwich down again. (Besides, Seaworld gives you two free cups of beer plus my wife's two free cups.)

MT, did anyone notice the birds hovering around the place?
I would have called it a day after the first "delivery".
Number, makes some good points and who said that "lightning" never strikes twice?"

I hate it when the crows steal my hot dogs out of the golf cart when your not looking.

It was a large party (2 tables of six) and I had built it up to be a fabulous experience. It was fun the first time but never again!

Eh, it sucks that this happened, but I guess it's the chance you take when you choose to dine outside. the restaurant can't exactly ban birds from flying over the patio.

But could offer an umbrella or two to shield it's patrons....Just good business sense,
