maytag bravo washer and dryer
Review by ellyrae on 2007-05-11
WISCONSIN -- I just came back from Home Depot after purchasing a new Maytag Bravo washer & dryer. After reading some of the reviews, I certainly hope I made a wise choice. Any comments?

Find out the return policy, and give 'em a workout before that expires.

So far so good with the Bravo,Only customer assistance calls, and cosmetic issues.

I wouldn't have bought them at a hardware store though.
install yourself?
Home Depot?
My advice is to make sure they are level, and installed properly.
And like Pirate said give them a workout.

Oh yeah a friend tells me the drive system in the washer is the same as a Fisher Pykel system, and they are very well designed.
GL keep us posted

Like Pirate said...run the shyt out of the washer and dryer. If something is going to happen...it will very soon otherwise you got some decent equipment.

Thanks for your comments. Home Depot/Maytag had some really good incentives for purchasing there. We will make certain that they are leveled, and I know they will get a workout. thanks

I'm seeing advertisments for the Bravos more now. Maybe they'll help everyone forget about the Neptunes

You still have a 50/50 chance, good luck!

if your utility company offers free inspection of your gas appliances, have them inspect the installation. i have seen many installation done incorrectly. the problem was not discovered till quite a bit later.

after researching and considering the brovos set I decided that whirlpool which owns maytag and also mfg kenmore simply own too much of the market share. Kind of like the american car makers which make junk. It's hard to find good reviews on maytag appliances anymore. If it's not to late, return the set in exchange for a GE set. GE are made in Canada but are not trying to control the appliance world. Out of 18 consumer reviews my GE set got an average of 4.6 stars out of 5. The set cost less than half of the brovos set. It's super capacity plus in size and we got the stackable adapter. Now have a 6" set and lots of room in the laundry room to hang rugs to dry. Got them at home depot too.

Just want to let you all know that I LOVE my new Bravos. Very quiet, wonderful performance, and the softest and whitest clothes I have ever had. Of course, I'll keep my fingers crossed.
Posted by trixiedee on 2007-05-26:
Does it seem like the washer does not use enough water to wash the clothes? I know in their advertisements they show the center impeller cycling the clothes up from the center and rotating them to the outer edges but I have yet to see this from my washer. I want to be sure my washer is functioning correctly. It seems like it just spins a lot without washing the clothes.
Posted by ellyrae on 2007-05-27:
trixidee - I have literally watched several loads of laundry (thanks to the see-through lid), and I have seen the clothes being tumbled from the center to the outside of the drum. When the tumbling actually gets started, it is actually quite a long time. It didn't seem to me that enough water was being used either, but after doing some research, apparently that is the "new" way, so clothes are not being washed in the same dirty water throughout one cycle. Hope this helps. What surprises me is the small of detergent that is needed!

Now I love my Bravos. At first we had a very, very noisy dryer. I was so unhappy so we called home depot and they sent out a serviceman who basically said, too bad for you.
So we complained again, and another repair company came out. This repair man said he had a few other complaints about the noise. He greased the tensioner spring and idler pulleys. It worked! Now it is as quiet as the washer.

I purchased my Bravo washer a few weeks ago....it seems to me that my clothes are not gtting very clean in this washer. Anyone else have this experience? Thanks.
Posted by Tia on 2007-06-11:
tdub,we're not having that problem. Our clothes are cleaner than ever with the Bravo. Read the manual and be sure to use the correct setting needed. The Bravo washer has so many options. Good luck.
Posted by ellyrae on 2007-06-11:
I agree with Tia, I don't have that problem whatsoever. Even with a huge load and a minimal amount of detergent, the clothes come out spotless.

I currently own a LG front loading washer and hate it. I have had it for 4 months and my towels smell horrible. Anyway, Home Depot is taking the set back and I have to pick out another set. The manager is pushing me towards the Maytag Bravo. I'm almost wanting to go back to the original top loader. I cannot take the smell I experienced with the front loader. I don't know if it was a combination of water standing under the drum, the rubber seal and not using enough water. I understand the Bravo uses less water too. I need any help/comments I can get. Does it take longer to wash a load withthe Bravo? I have to pick out a new set today. THANKS!

You would love the Bravos. My daughter had a brand-new front loader, and couldn't stand the smell so much that she left it when she sold her house 3 months later. The top loading Bravos is great - quiet, clean clothes, and energy efficient.
Posted by ellyrae on 2007-10-06:
Also, yes, it does take a little longer for a load to wash.

We purchased the Bravos washer and dryer last week at Home Depot and besides the absolute NUMBSKULLS that came to "install" them we have zero complains. We were all caught up on laundry prior to them being delivered but I swear that night after I finished installing them my wife was finding things to wash, and probably did 3 loads that night. Absolute perfection in our eyes for washer performance AND the dryer. We purchased the gas dryer and couldn't be happier. I do know that they are more "techy" than most washer and dryers, so following the manual is a great idea. In our opinion and after approx 10 loads of laundry, we give the combo two thumbs up.

We just purchased the bravos and clothes seem to come out very tangled anyone else having that problem? Also does everyone use the detergent specified?

My Name is Roger I have been a service man for 25 years working on all types of units.

The True problem with Maytag is much deeper then just a new model like the Maytag Bravos or Neptune.

See Maytag has been bought about 3 years back now all the patented parts have been shelved for profit reasons. (They Don't Break) If they don't break no profits.
See these big corporations want there profit to go up each year no mater what or crap starts to flow downhill if you know what I mean.

So these people that are greedy bast>>>ds can’t just have a great name that stands for quality and stands the test of time they want more and more and more the monster can never be content with having a world wide company that stands for honest dam good Products like Maytag use to be.

Maytag is now owned by a company called www.nordyne.com and believe me its all about the Profit with them.

I would say stay away from this group but it’s hard when they own whirlpool, Amana, Maytag Ect....

The company makes nothing but Junk!!!!!!

Take it from me I have to work on this crap for a living.

It is not like the good old days when Maytag was a Maytag. The Parts were made to last.

The same with the other brands I talked about this giant company bought the names but not the integrity of the 100 year old names and backbone of the industry.

The factory's closing occurs 100 years after the development of Fred Maytag's first washing machine in Newton.

It was in 1907 that he made and marketed his first wooden-tub washing machine to generate revenue during the winter months when farm equipment sales slowed.

See these people were the mother of invention and the new owners could care less about integrity. It’s about the old mighty dollar.

So hope that helps you to know what you get when you buy a Maytag JUNK now.

We just purchased our Bravos washer and dryer and we could not be happier. We did however, purchase it from our local dealer and not home depot. They came, installed it, took off our old set and we were using it that night. Virtually no noise at all! It's awesome!

We purchased the Bravo washer and dryer last year, and we have been very happy with them EXCEPT for one thing: it is very easy for one coin to slip down into the pump mechanism. After the first time this happened, after which we had to call the repairman and have the pump rteplaced (because a coin or coins getting inside the pump will break the pump), we have been very meticulous about removing coins (something about which we never worried with our cheaper models in the past). Still, one coin managed to get through, and we had to have the repairman out again before it had the chance to break the pump. The company says this is a user issue and will not cover the problem under the warranty. Even though we beklieve this is a design flaw, we sucked it up and paid - again. Three days later, I washed my daughter's bathing suit on the gentle cycle. The suit has little plastic flowers (about the size of a dime) attached by a little metal ring to its ties, which cannot be removed before washing. Unfortunately, a couple of them came off during washing, and, you guessed it, they slipped down into the mechanism. Very frustrated, I called Maytag and told them that as the flowers were not designed to be removed and that I am not psychic and could not have predicted they would come off, this was not a user issue. It is obviously a design flaw. I was told I need to make sure I turn garments inside out (which, by the way, I did), and it was a user issue they will not cover. Very angry now, I explained that i had indeed turned the suit inside out when I washed it, and if they think that turning a garment inside out will prevent a button or decoration from coming off a garment, they were wrong. Bottyom line is that they are stil refusing to cover the issue, and we strongly believe that this is a design flaw. The fact that coins can slip through so easliy and get into the pump is ridiculous. Never before had we paid so much for a washer, and we never had to worry about change or what might come off in the wash. Is anyone else having this problem; if so, I'd like to hear about it. also, beware when considering this set.

I too just purchased the bravos top load washer and watched the first cycle in action. Everything seems fine except the drum (or top of drum) moves quite a bit, machine is level and there were no codes for unbalanced load or anything. Is this normal?

Did you know that Home Depot offers delivery and set up of appliances? Delivered from Depot Direct. Delivery charge paid at purchase, but is rebated back if rebate form sent in or over the internet. Not all items in all stores due to space limits. Also, old appliances are removed for recycling. Beats havi;ng to move a 200 to 400 lb appliance yourself.

I would never advise anyone to purchase a Maytag Bravo washer. I had one to rust along the dispensers and under the washer lid. Maytag did not desire to replace the unit but did discount parts. After replacing the lid and cabinet, the new parts began to rust. Oh well, live and learn. But in the end Maytag only offered me a rusting chemical to use around the dispenser, but, hey! I wanted another machine, now way. Maytag cannot replace a machine with rusting issues, which is not covered by any manufacturer's warranty. Too bad for me, but you can be smart, don't by a Bravo.

Just called Lowe's to come and pick up my Bravo Washer..it's noisy and i noticed that my clothes(i watched several loads while washing) looked like they were being mauled instead of washed..i'm all for conserving water, but the amount i saw in this washer did not seem adequate for washing doll clothes. Sorry Maytag, but you aren't the company you used to be.
