Cole Muffler Complaint - Unfair Practices - Automobile Repair Dis-service

Review by JAB on 2007-05-13
BINGHAMTON, NEW YORK -- Last week I brought my 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee in for the annual inspection. After the inspection was completed, the counter man informed me that within 6 months I would need to replace pads and rotors on my vehicle. I asked him how much it would cost to replace these now and after checking the reference materials he quoted me around $250 for the job. I told him I would get back to him shortly. The next day I called and the manager answered. I wanted to schedule the job. He informed me that the price would be around $500. I told him the other gentelman quoted me around $250. I said that this is ridiculus and that I wanted done at then price quoted. He asked me if the person put it in writing. I said no. He said that doesn't make it valid. What king of tricks are we playing here. If I had said lets do the job right then, they would have charged me how much? How many people are mis-lead by tactics like these? I believe they should honor their price.

The reason they do this is it works for them most of the time. Go back and see the man that told you $250. If you decide to let them do the job get the cost in writing BEFORE they start. Ask for your old parts being returned in the boxes the new parts came in.

The key here is there is no way he could say, "After the inspection was completed, the counter man informed me that within 6 months I would need to replace pads and rotors on my vehicle." even if he was a physic.

He was trying to screw you in the first place. Take you car elsewhere and get another opinion. The rotors can be turned for about 7 to 25 bucks each if, and I doubt they need to be, if they need to be. The break pads should NOT cost that much anyway.

If you do the job your self and it is not that hard it might cost you high side $100.00.
