The Medical Center at Bowling Green Compliment - Childbirth
BOWLING GREEN, KENTUCKY -- I want to post a big thank you to everyone in Labor and Delivery at the Medical Center at Bowling Green! MY wife started her first real labor contractions on Sunday evening around 6:30pm (5/06/07) we were up through the night hoping they were to get stronger and closer together. By around 10:00am the next morning, they had moved to around 7 minutes apart, and her spirits were up and still had a good sense of humor. I ended up getting a bit excited and taking her to the hospital a little early, (around 7pm) when her contractions were 4 minutes apart (her sense of humor was still good) the nurses showed us to our L&D room where they were given our birth plan for natural childbirth via the Bradley Method. They were VERY supportive and every nurse that came into the room had already read our birthplan and was following it perfectly. We were NEVER ONCE offered and kind of anesthetic, and our natural pain tolerance methods were well respected. Though they had never seen anyone labor on a yoga ball for 17 hours, they were very supportive and did their best to work the intermitant external fetal monitor around our style.
Dana did a great job giving my wife positive re-enforcement and working hard to help her be as comfortable as she could be given her state. My wife plans to go back and visit Pam tomorrow who helped encourage her to not give-up during a moment of weakness towards the end of her 3rd stage transition and pushing. Pam was an excellent pushing coach and helped to provide me a welcome break from coaching as I was starting to fall asleep standing up. In the end Dr. Keith Hewitt delivered him while myself and Pam cheered her on in the last couple of pushes.
My son was born at 2:21pm Tuesday 5/08/07 weighing 7lbs 13oz and 20.5inches long. He is very healthy and was very alert with good color directly after taking his first breaths. My incredible wife though exhausted showed unbelievable strength by getting out of bed, changing clothes, and refusing the wheelchair in favor of walking to the recovery room (she ate a subway sandwich on the way.) I wish everyone could have seen the nurses faces in the maternity ward when they saw her walking back!!! I'm so proud! Anyone with a myspace account can see pics at www.myspace.com/brianwitty the pics are on page 2! Thanks again to everyone at the Medical Center at Bowling Green for helping to make a 42 natural hour labor as smooth as it could be!!!
