Nokia/AT&T Rebate Center Complaint - Rebate offer

Review by Danielle_Panis on 2001-02-09
ARLINGTON, TEXAS -- Rebate Department,

I am sending this letter after receiving my rebate information back in an envelope marked "REFUSED" and "Return to Sender"...

I purchased a Nokia phone mid December and was told I would receive a $30 rebate. The rebate form did not come in the box - and when I contacted the company I purchased the phone from, they told me to call a different number. After several phone calls, I finally reached someone at the 1-877-874-7561 number, who told me I did not need the form, and to simply send the following information in a letter to the following address:

Information:
Name: Danielle Panis
Date of purchase: December 15, 2000 (approximately)
Model #: 8260
esn: 10611444598
Nokia Holiday Rebate $30

Along with my receipt for the phone, which was part of my AT&T cellular phone bill.

Address sent to:
Nokia Holiday Rebate, PO Box 470487, Fort Worth, TX, 76147-0487

I was very disappointed/frustrated to receive my letter back, unopened. I was further dismayed when I spoke to someone at the same phone number earlier today, who informed me that the information given to me on my last phone call was incorrect, and I did need the rebate form.

I was instructed to send another letter, this time to this address to resolve this. I am a very dissatisfied customer. I firmly believe that if a customer is offered a rebate - and the company makes errors - such as NOT sending the form initially, and then telling the customer "NOT TO WORRY, it is not even necessary, just send a letter", the customer should be given the rebate. I find it unnacceptable that I have had to take up so much of my own time to jump through hoops - all in order to get Nokia to honor their rebate offer.

My rebate form was poorly/deceptively worded... tells you that you can't get the rebate until you have been activated for at least 30 days, but then in fine print says you have to send it in WITHIN 30 days! (I guess they hold it and verify that you are still a customer before sending you the check?) I wouldn't be surprised if they now try to tell you that it has been more than 30 days and you can't get your rebate!
