Dell Financial Services Complaint - Phone Harassment by Dell Financial

Complaint
Review by morgans2000 on 2007-05-18
I am continually receiving calls from Dell Financial Services for a personal with a similar name to mine. When I inform them that no such person resides here they reply *Are you sure?* - Well, of course, I'm sure. I have been nice, I have been polite, I have been nasty and rude. It doesn't matter, they just don't get it. They have repeatedly promised to remove this number(and it will be quiet for awhile - then the calls start up again). I have never owned, nor will I ever purchase any Dell products if this is how they treat people.

Ask them to mail you the debt information in question and then demand they stop calling. When they ask for your address refuse to give it to them as they should have in their system. On the phone do not confirm or deny an address they have. They have 30 days to respond. By law you have right to demand they communicate in writing only. If they continue to call either refuse to allow them to record the call or say that you are recording the conversation. They will hang up immediately. I know that works because that's how I handled them at my business. After 4-5 more calls they stopped.

However, you might be a victim of identity fraud. Consider that they have a similar sounding name and your phone number. Check your credit report online for free at www.annualcreditreport.com. This is a 100% legit web site operated by the three major credit reporting firms.

I was thinking maybe ID fraud too. Good advice.

When you tell them to stop calling, by law they must do so. Make sure they know that you know this.

Unfortunately telling them to stop calling usually doesn't work. That's because they are not calling from the U.S. Really the best way I've found to get them to stop is as I stated above. Every time they called my business they stated the call was being recorded I refused permission and they immediately hung up.

Also, when they call my house (routinely for some woman with an unpronounceable name, who presumably had our phone number years ago....) They say "Could I speak to Nancy Clydowski?" (Or whatever the heck it is...) I say "You sure can! That is, if you dial her number." They act all confused...."Excuse me?" "Yes, you can speak to her, if you dial her number. This isn't it. But if you call her number, you absolutely have my permission to speak to her." They usually hang up at that point. Some even apologize, although it's pretty rare.

I thought I was the only one that was having harrassing calls from Dell Financial Services. They keep calling asking for someone with the same last name as mine, but I don't even know the person! I go thru their menu options if I happen to answer and chose the option 'if this is not so-and-so, press 2'. I have also personally called them back on 4 occasions and talked to a human, who ASSURED me I would no longer receive these calls. I started out nice, the last one last night, I got rude and nasty. I asked for an address and the lady told me she was in India. Am I shocked? Of course not. I called my phone company today and there's really nothing they can do short of changing my phone number. She suggested I call the police to at least lodge a complaint. Not much can be done with calls coming from outside the US. Has anyone else had any success with getting rid of these annoying calls???

I have never had a Dell account, but it seems they are trying to collect debt by looking upo their debters in the directory and then calling over and over again. I have asked for supervisors and managers and they just put me on eternal hold each time. THey tell me they will take me off the list, but I keep getting calls. I am reporting them to the BBB and hopefully the calls will stop. I suggest playing games with them. When they call, just say "Hold on." then put the phone down and let them wait. Or have some fun with them. I told the last guy who called that he is calling a house where there was a murder and start asking questions. "Were you her lover? How do you know Ms. Watkins? They are easy targets for jokes. If you are the person they are looking for, do not give them any information. Do not waste yout time with them because they don't listen anyway.

I don't even have an account with Dell Financial at all. They called my house about 20 times and I tried telling them they had the wrong person. They kept asking if thy could just talk to my husband they could clear up this situation. I told them that there was no need because we had no acct. Even after talking to a supervisor she said the sme thing. I finally lost my cool and told them they were breaking the law, first by talking about someone else's prsonal acct., then by harassing me and my family. This was even after them verifying that the address wasn't even a match to the one they had on file. Now if I end up receiving a bill in the mail there will be you know what to pay from me because it is not right for them to treat me this way when I don't even use them for anything.I don't know about anyone else but this is getting ridiculous when they just do a phone directory lookup and getthe wrong people. There should be some way to stop this phone harassment. I bet they wouldn't like it if we did it to them. Does anyone else feel the same way?

As I have written before Dell will not quit calling my home and this is even after my husband has told them repeatedly he has no acct. with them. I am at the point now where I am contacting the Better Business Bureau and looking further into this matter. I cannot take these calls anymore it is disturbing my family. What is there problem don't they understand. We don't even use any financial services. I've had it with the harrassment.

Most areas have caller ID. Don't answer.
