Best Buy Complaint - 4 week wait for $1000 refund
MCHENRY, ILLINOIS -- Made the mistake of shopping for a new laptop at Best Buy. I was looking for a machine running XP, not Vista - and new machines running XP are now difficult to find. The Best Buy in McHenry Illinois said I could order a Toshiba Satellite running XP through Best Buy Business First. I said that due to complaints I have read about Toshiba service, I was willing to buy this machine only if I could get an extended service agreement through Best Buy/Geek Squad. The young clerk said no problem. I paid for the laptop (approx $1,000) at the front register using a debit card and the sale was rung up - but then the clerk said that they would not be able to sell me a service agreement because it was a Best But Business First transaction and there was no SKU number. I told them in that case I did not want the computer and to cancel the sale. This was no more than 2 minutes after the ""sale" had been completed. They said would cancel the transaction first thing Monday (tranaction was on a Saturday). Following Monday, a Best buy employee called (as promised) and said the transaction had been canceled and our checking account would be credited the $1000. Nevertheless, on Weds a computer arrived at our house and the checking account was not credited. After calling the store we were told that we needed to bring the computer back and then we would be credited. We did so, but were told that now we needed a shipping label that would be e-mailed to us and we needed that label to return it and we could not get our money back FOR 4 WEEKS!!!!
I would not have attempted to purchase the computer if we had been accurately informed about the lack of ability to purchase a service agreement - THEN we were told they would cancel it and they did not. NOW we have to wait 4 weeks for our $1000 refund.
I will not be doing further business with Best Buy and recommend that other do not as well.
