General Electric Company Complaint - Self cleaning oven - profile wall oven

profile wall oven - Complaint
Review by dirty oven gal on 2007-05-21
HUNTSVILLE, ALABAMA -- I love everything about my ge profile wall oven, except when you use the self cleaning program. it works wonderfully, but when the time is up, the oven stays on! there is no way to stop it, so you have to cut the breaker to the oven. the first time it happened it scared me so bad, i thought it was going to explode or something. my friend has the same kind of oven, and hers does the same thing. the only reason i am writing this is because i wondered if everybody else was having this problem. we have had it for several years, and this has been going on, i just rarely use the self cleaning program. the number of the oven is jtp1580a1bb i think. that was the best i could make out the numbers and letters. i was hoping perhaps there was a recall or something that i just missed.!

Are you sure it still stays on? Or just does it still stay locked? The ovens are set so that the lock (and the lock light) will not deactivate until the oven temp has dropped below a set point... this guarentees that you don't open the door and get a blast of super-heated air.

I haven't heard of this problem before.

KenPopcorn is correct. It will stay locked until the temp inside the oven has lowered.

Yes, KenPopcorn is correct most ovens are like this.

I agree with Ken - mine will stay locked for hours, but it's only on a portion of that time.

Also the control board fans, in equipped, will stay on too until the oven cools to prevent the electronics from becoming damaged. You can ask anyone who actually is or was nthebiz and they can confirm what's been said here. Pretty routine stuff for them.

It sounds like a faulty magneto.

Have you called the manufacturer to determine if it is doing what it is supposed to or is faulty?
All self-cleaning ovens ( I own one) will not allow the door to open even after the 3 hour cycle for safety. Mine allows 15 minutes later, I think. Do not use a cold wet cloth to wash the window, however, until totally cooled down, another half hour, as the glass may shatter, even though the door has been opened. I know. It happened to me.

I have a double ge oven, don't know the model # b/c don't have the manuel and can't see it anywhere on the oven. This is the first time I self cleaned it and yes it stopped about 1.5 hours after starting self-cleaning, was beeping continuously with a red F2 and "door locked" on it. The beeping would not turn off no matter what buttons I pushed. I finally had to turn the breaker off and that reset the oven. Then it stayed locked as normal and opened when cooled down. I have read similar complaints. Yes I think there is a default in this oven...don't know what the blinking red F2 means? Thanks for writing this review, it was very helpful.

I have a free standing GE Spectra electic range and it has been flashing F2 periodically. It's less than 4 yrs old. I follow the manual and turn it off at breaker & sometimes it's fine for awhile. After reading web pages it seems this is a pattern with these GE ovens. Any word on a re-call. A thermal sensor should not fail this soon. GE should stand behind their product and fix it.
