DirecTV Inc Complaint - HD DVR
COLUMBIA, SOUTH CAROLINA -- I called my local telephone company to inquire about Direct TV and was offered a bundle package which was suppose to include local HD channels as well as about 5 other HD channels with a promise of more to come. The monthly bill would take about $35 off what we had been paying for cable, roadrunner and telephone service if we bundled it so we decided to give it a try. Well, on 05/17/07 the technician came to install the Direct TV and told us we had to pay an additional $99.00 for a receiver that wasn't included in the $421.88 that I was initially quoted. By the way, they also charged us 19.95 for shipping and handling when the technician had the receiver in his truck right outside my home. We paid the extra costs and once everything was installed we turned the TV on and noticed that there were no local HD channels. I immediately called Direct TV and was transfered from person to person who all advised me that local HD was not available in my area currently but they hope to have it available soon. I was livid at the fact that they let me purchase 2 HD receivers - one with a DVR combo without telling me at that time that they are selling something before they actually have it available. I was so frustrated after about 3 hours on the phone that I decided to call and cancel the service the next morning. I was told that I needed to send all the equipment back and when I asked about the $421.88 that I paid I was told all sales are final! What had I been sold? I asked if I could keep any of the equipment and I was told that the $421.88 was to lease the equipment not to purchase - so I think that entitles me to a full refund since the equipment sat in my home less than 24 hours. I cancelled the service the next day and they are also trying to charge me an early cancellation fee and send me a prorated bill for service. We never even turned the TV's back on after the technician left. This has really been a nightmare and it doesn't seem to be over, yet..
