Cedar Grove Apartments Complaint - No Professional People Skills

Review by Twanette on 2007-05-23
OPA LOCKA, FLORIDA -- I moved out from Cedar Grove Apartments on Saturday March 31, 2007. I haven't yet receive by security deposit. Every time I would call the leasing office they would state that the check was placed in the mail, and advise me that I should receive the check by the end of the week. That never happens. I called and spoke with [name removed] on Monday May 21, 2007 and he stated that the check is in the mail. This is an ongoing problem. Several ex-tenants who moved out had the same problem about their security deposit. I asked for the number to the corporate office. They stated that they can't give me the number.

By law you are entitled to your deposit within a specififed time (in Chicago it's 30 days.) In Florida it's 30 also. And the landlord has 20 days to lay claim to any part of your deposit for samages, or that is forfeited. So... write a letter stating these laws and send it certified to your complex. cc the local housing, etc. They have illegally held your $ and they owe you interest on it all this time as well.

I'd guess you have to give them 30 days.

**Correction: Landlord has 30 days (not 20) to lcaim damages, etc. And since you moved out March 31 (and I assume you fulfilled your entire lease?) then they have already exceeded the amount of time they are allowed to take.
