Cardoffers.com Complaint - Unwanted advertising

Review by Starlord on 2007-05-23
I had never heard of cardoffers.com until about a half hour hour ago. Suddenly, every time I hit enter, a little dialog box pops up, inviting me to input info. I have to keep hitting cancel on the box to get rid of it until I hit enter again. I was not familiar with cardoffers, I do not want to be familiar with cardoffers, and if I never heard of cardoffers as long as I live, I would be ecstatic. What gives these jerk-offs the right to inundate my screen with their garbage? It is a very good thing I am not a hacker, or I would send them a happy little packet that would tell them, "LEAVE ME ALONE!!!!"

Is it happening on here? I haven't seen anything like that. Sight unseen, I'd bet you have some malware on your machine.
One good tip, if you haven't already done so, is to download and install a custom HOSTS file. It takes about a minute and will eliminate a TON of crap when browsing.

Here's some good info:

I agree with KenPopcorn. Scan your PC for malware using either AdAware SE (www.lavasoftusa.com/products/ad-aware_se_personal.php) or Spybot Search & Destroy (www.safer-networking.org)

If you are using IE check to see if the pop up blocker is turned on. You can find in under TOOLS,INTERNET OPTIONS, select the PRIVACY tab.

If you are using Firefox it automatically blocks popups.

I dont think its Malware. It was some sort of login screen that popped up. It looked like and FTP site login screen..

Like I said Admin was aware of the problem, no malware, no adware. No one needs to scan their PC.

Admin: We have been able to "disable" the pop-up for now. Sorry about the inconvenience. We'll be working with this particular advertiser to make sure it does not happen again.

Super, thank you for the info. the dialog box disappeared about 9 PM last night, so I can tell you it does pay to complain. Thanks again.

If it only happened on M3C, I would have probably criticized M3C for allowing it to happen. The box appeared every time I hit enter, regardless of where I was. Fortunately, it has been resolved as the box has not come back.
