Famous Dave's BBQ Compliment - Finally A Rib Joint In Denver To My Liking!!! - Good Food and Service.

Good Food and Service. - Compliment
Review by 15910 on 2007-05-29
DENVER, COLORADO -- Having grown up in Denver, Colorado I've never experienced any BBQ from Kansas City, Chicago, St. Louis or any Southern style pork ribs except once at a family reunion in Texas. The local places out here that I have tried really don't even "stack up" to what I can conjur up on my grill. The ribs are either tough and bland and in some cases BOILED before being put on the grill. Even being from here I think that is a no-no!

Anyway Famous Dave's does it right for me. We went there for a Memorial Day Dinner and the place was packed. We were seated right away and were enjoying our meals within twenty minutes tops. I got a half slab of the pork ribs and the smoke flavor and seasonings went all the way to the bone not to mention how tender the meat was. Ordinarily I try to stay away from pork. It can be a bit greasy if you are not careful but not in this case. The cole slaw was tasty and the fries that looked like thickly cut "Ruffles Potato Chips" were perfect. The waitress kept my glass of lemonade full and was very nice.

After enduring raw hot wings, knats in my Po' Boy Sandwich and so on from other places this was a much needed good dining experience. ***1/2

We LOVE Famous Dave's... Unfortunately they just closed the one near us... We were quite devastated...

A side note... if you ever make it to Memphis... be sure to try the ribs at B.B. King's on Beale St.! They are quite good...

Famous Daves is not bad for a franchised BBQ joint. Its a lot better than the Rib Crib or Damons.

Good review zzrokk. I voted your contribution very helpful.

Zzrokk, that's what kind of food we enjoy around these here parts all the time, ya'll should come on down, ya here!

Famous Dave's BBQ is very good and did you sign up for the chance to meet Jeff Gordon?

Thanks for the tip, Sparticus. I noticed on Famous Dave's location map that mostly Southern states were where he didn't have any franchises. I figured too much competition?
Stewart, I always give (most) members a vote for "helpful advice" on my reviews. You barely got by. Thanks....RIB CRIB? We had a joint out here called "The Rib Cage".
Lids, no I didn't and btw, isn't Jeff Gordon from CALIFORNIA?!

Yes, he is when it’s convenient for him but he lives here in NC.

Good to know. A Famous Dave's is being built about 2 miles from my home. Never been in one. Guess I will soon.

Sounds great, zz!!

Tony Romas really does suck!

I appreciate all of the responses.
I wasn't to pleased with Tony Roma's either. The Onion Loaf is pretty cool though. Chili's tastes bland underneath that blanket of sauce. Oven baked?

Woo hoo, Famous Daves! There's one here in west Michigan that's great. Although, one thing bothers me... Does yours have pictures of cartoon pigs eating ribs on the walls? I always found that disturbing...

They have the best BBQ of anywhere. Manager of the one near me actually gave me a tour to prove they start the BBQ process at 5:30am.

What I mostly saw was mounted Elk and Deer heads. Kind of a mountain lodge ambience. Nice. I do remember some "left turn" references in there as well. (NASCAR)

PB, can you give me/us a short version of the process?

There's a Famous Dave's in my town, but we've only been there once in the 4 years we've lived here. "Par-boiling" or partial boiling/cooking is a technique used to tenderize and partially cook the ribs, kinda like a head start for those who don't have time to babysit a barbecue all day. Another "authentic" barbecue place in Louisville is Vince Staten's Old Time Barbecue. He's written a variety of interesting books as well.

How did you and your "high end grill" come out this weekend? Burn anything?
Posted by Anonymous on 2007-05-29:
Had a couple of sirloins and some chicken breasts, pretty dang good.
Posted by Anonymous on 2007-05-29:
Ranchalina? Grilled chicken breasts are the way to go because of the versatility. Whole grilled chicken is not to appealing to me. Especially when you get an "amateur" serving up grilled (slighty charred) chicken on the outside and BLOODY chicken on the inside....This tends to happen when the chef opens his first beer before the grill is even started.

zz, sorry to say we don't have a Famous Dave's within 100 miles of here. I'd have to echo Lidman, that we do pretty good bbq locally.

The mustard style (yellow) barbecue sauce rocks.

Too bad I don't have a Famous Dave's by me. I guess it's either a LLoyd's bucket or bust.

Just come to Memphis for pork b-q

Place sounds like something I'd REALLY like. But--Sparticus's comment gives me concern. The one shown as nearest me (7-1/2 miles) may have gone bye bye!
