General Electric Company Complaint - GE Ext Warranty Crap For Calypso
LOUISVILLE, KENTUCKY -- We paid over $900 for a Calypso Washer at the local Lowe's Store in September of 2002 and purchased the extended warranty.
There are dozens of posts on the net about how crappy the Calypso Washer turned out to be; there was even a Class Action Lawsuit, but somehow we missed it and apparently weren't having trouble with the washer YET so I didn't do a web search about it.
When the washer broke down, we called Sears to see it. They opened it, looked inside, said it was literally rusting away (we live in a $1M home in NY state, so it's not like this was sitting in the damp air outside a mobile home in Florida). Price to fix? Over $650.
We contacted Lowes who sent us to GE. They claimed that since it was opened by an "unauthorized agent" (EVEN THOUGH that agent confirmed he had NOT worked on it) they wouldn't honor our warranty.
HOW ridiculous is it that a 4 yr old washer is just supposed to be trashed when it completely falls apart?? Isn't a washer generally good for 10 years? This wasn't even half.
Not only did they refuse to help us (after one guy, Mike, said they would) but TOM, supposedly the head of the department, was RUDE to us on top of it.
NEVER BUY A GE EXTENDED WARRANTY!
