Active Hotels Complaint - Active Hotels -- be wary

Review by brennie on 2007-06-02
This online hotel reservation system is very unreliable. There is not a method to consistently pull up one's reservations. I had made two reservations months ahead of an Italy trip last October. My computer had a meltdown, and I lost the email confirmations. I had then found the excellent www.venere.com.

When I tried to cancel the Active Hotels reservations, none came up, then from another computer, only one came up. I emailed the company and asked that all reservations in my name be canceled. They assured me it would be done.

In the end, I was charged for a night in Venice that they had not canceled. When I disputed this with them and then with my credit card company, they said I had not followed the correct procedure to cancel.

If you must use this service make copies of all confirmation numbers, et al.

On the other hand, www.venere.com has a great login system where one can view all reservations and edit as necessary. This is a great benefit especially for overseas hotels.

Why don't you call the hotels direct? Your get better prices and service when you do. If you must use the Internet maybe let a travel agent do it for you, at least you have somebody to call.

It is a good idea when you receive any kind of confirmation to pull a hard copy, then if your computer takes a dump, you still have proof of the confirmation. Actually, this is true of any important communications through the computer. First thing to do is to pull a hard copy and keep it in a safe place.

I agree with Starlord on this one. I travel for business alot and whenever I get my travel arrangementsvia email.. I always pull 2 copies.. one to leave at home for my family and one to take with me.. That way if I have any problems, I have something to back me up.
