Pepboys, Decatur St Las Vegas NV Informative - Run around - Repair

Review by debbieot on 2007-06-07
LAS VEGAS, NEVADA -- I live in Az and was in Las Vegas when my car started malfunctioning. I went to Pepboys as it was a National company and i felt safe i would not get ripped off.
They diagnosed it , told me it was not safe to drive home across the desert, and it would take a couple days to fix.So i left it and came back up a week later. I didn't even get down the street before car was doing same thing. Took it back. They said everything fine. I drove home w/ car stalling anytime i braked and tried to accelerate.

Took it to another shop at home and they said my oil gasket was cracked. That is what i paid Pepboys $400 to fix. The shop fixed it again.

I sent a letter to the manager for reimbursement for the cost of the second repair. No reply, so 3 weeks later i called. He referred me to someone else - regional service manager-who had some one else call me back and say they would make good on it. A month later, no contact from Pepboys. I called their 1-800 # and was informed that the manager was suppose to give me a claim #. I've called the manager for 2 weeks - he's off, just stepped out, with a customer.....

Guess this is why Small Claims Courts were invented....

My alternator failed when I was in Vegas and the Midas shop on Tropicana stayed open late and fixed it for me Saturday evening. You should have gone there.

A cracked oil gasket is not going to make your car stall. What's the real story here.

You mentioned that your car will stall when you are stopping and also stall when trying to accelerate. I would suggest to replace your oxygen sensor as they are blown out. **To tell if your car has either 1 or 2 oxygen sensors... If your car is made before 1996, you have one O2 sensors. If made after 1996, you have two O2 sensors. I believe O2 sensors cost $50 each at Pep Boys.

I don't doubt debbie for an instant. We had a Ford Crown Vic that we ran as a taxicab with qa cab company locally. We took it to Pep Boys for an advertised free A/C check. The free check ended up costing us over $1,800, and then we had to take it to another shop to get it fixed right. We might purchase a few items like a luggage rack or such from PB, but they'll never lay another wrench on a vehicle of ours.

Please don't base your criteria on a company being a "national" company; it doesn't mean anything. Ever hear of Ashley Furniture, Sears, Circuit City, etc?
