Jiffylube Complaint - Jiffylube - oil change, fluid check, anifreeze change

Review by bosniaman on 2007-06-14
HERNDON, VIRGINIA -- Dear JiffyLube Corporate Officer-Customer Relations,

The store was well staffed with many employees waiting to work. I bought over $200 of services from you today, when I had planned on a $20 oil change.

I paid $99 to change the antifreeze, $45 for an AC filter, $20 for an air filter, $35 for an oil change.

For all of this I was given a free $3 carwash.

The carwash is a joke and your employees admit this. It does not wash off ANY spots of stuff.

After it was all over I decided to check my fluid levels to be sure they were all full. The Power Steering container was too low. Apparently your well-meaning immigrants are not well trained. I pointed this out and they put some in. They did not bother to tell me I was low on brake fluid and did not even try to sell me any, so I guess you don’t sell that.

However, given that I had to get dirty and double check your fluid change work( and that is the only business you are in there). I think I should get at least a $100 credit on my VISA card.

If I don’t get this by July 1, this missive will appear on some blogs. I am sure you know blogs sit on the internet forever.

I also suggest you dismantle your horrid “carwash”. It is a joke and sending people in there thinking they will get a carwash like others they have gotten in life, just makes your customers angry and not want to return.

I have no idea if changing an AC filter should cost $45 or antifreeze change should cost $100 , but I am going to investigate this.

What the heck is an "AC filter?"

Sounds like a vacuum cleaner sucked a lot of money out of your wallet. Actually, changing you antifreeze was a good thing. It needs to be changed every three years or 30,000 miles. Then your radiator and block won't clog up with rust. The a/c filter sounds about the going rate. However, not topping off the fluids is a crock. Anyway, if you are not happy, go somewhere else.

Some cars now have an air filter for the interior sometimes called the cabin air filter. Most people don't know this and never change them. In my wife's Toyota RAV4 she has one and I change it every year. It costs about $25 at the dealer. It is located behind the glove box.

Yeah, I hear ya, seems the guy was taken. Right, wrong or indifferent, I've NEVER changed the antifreeze in any of my cars and I've been driving for 30 plus years. I DO check to make sure it's still viable, but haven't changed it. Perhaps I will in the fall, but not at this location!

Jiffy Lube was busted by the State of California for racking up hundreds dollars from the customers and not doing the work. Undercover news teams with hidden cameras etc. They also found a lot of the work unsafe.

Ive just learned to flush out the coolant as part of my maintenance schedule and it only cost me $20 for 3 bottles of anti-freeze and DIY knowledge is PRICELESS. $100 for anti-freeze change... good googly moogly!

I agree that you got ripped off. However, thanks for being a man of your word.

Maybe I can't read a calendar, but I don't think it is July 1rst yet.
