General Electric Company Informative - F7 Failure
SILVERHILL, ALABAMA -- After the experience of several weeks trouble shooting the F7 failure code and reading many complaints on WEB sites; I may have run across the fix! The Keypad unit is manufactured (from the rear) into the front metal panel. The ribbon flat flex cable feeds through a metal slot to the rear of the Keypad and plugs into the control unit. The Keypad frame is SS metal and grounded. At the place where the ribbon cable comes through the metal slot I placed a piece of heat shrink material on the side the ribbon cable that would have pressure appied from the metal edge as it bends back to the control unit. Provided a insulator to the metal edge. Industry refers to this problem of the insulator of the cable breaking down as "cold flow". The pressure against the metal causes the insulation to break down. So far no F7 failure!
