Symantec Complaint - Problems and unable to uninstall etc - Norton 360 and Norton Internet Security 2007

Norton 360 and Norton Internet Security 2007 - Complaint
Review by Patelwho on 2007-06-19
Don't use Norton 360!!! I installed the new Norton 360. All of a sudden, I couldn't access the home page of my ISP. I spent over 12 hrs. on phone with RoadRunner, Dell and my cable company. No one could fix the problem. Finally, after 3 hrs on phone with Microsoft, they determined it was Norton 360. We tried to remove it - impossible. I had to call Symantec (waited 42 minutes on hold) who spent another few hours uninstalling, then downloading a free trial version of Norton Internet Security 2007. When I tried to get updates to Norton 2007 - message said my "subscription had expired." So I called Symantec again - they took control of my computer and it took over an hour to resolve. Reps were very helpful, but their product causes too many problems -- will use another vendor next time. Symantec service is horrible....you have to search to find a phone number which is 1-877-832-2810. They want to charge you - but I said "No - your product has bugs, and you have to fix it!" They did.

I agree, Norton stinks; actually, I don't use any antivirus that I can't disable. Programs that sit in memory are resource hogs, and often cause problems. I imagine in your case it was a firewall configuration issue. BTW, doesn't it cost like $80/hour to have Microsoft diagnose a problem for you?

Norton has become a nightmare to anyone using it. It reduces your PC's processor by 50% and kills it's memory. A utility like CCleaner (Crud Cleaner) will clean up the install mess Norton makes. Symantec is a company gone out of control, management is clueless and customer service is being run by a bunch of idiots in India. STAY AWAY from Symantec / Norton, IT WILL wreck your computer.

Over 65 million downloads!!!

CCleaner is a freeware system optimization and privacy tool. It removes unused files from your system - allowing Windows to run faster and freeing up valuable hard disk space. It also cleans traces of your online activities such as your Internet history. But the best part is that it's fast (normally taking less than a second to run) and contains NO Spyware or Adware! :)

I hate Norton too. I had it installed on my computer, but it dragged the system so bad that I uninstalled it, and got Kaspersky Internet Suite. It's pricey but good. The only problem I have is that I can't delete a stupid Norton file that Windows keeps trying to install every time I boot up. I've deleted every file of theirs I could find, but it won't let me delete this last one. I've tried using Adaware SE Personal, and Spybot, and still no luck. I'll try that CCleaner, and see if it helps. I hate Norton!!

lobo65, CC should clean it for you, let us know how it works out. I have had great luck with the utility.

Stew. it's a great utility and will really speed up your PC. You won't believe how much crud is on your PC till you run CCleaner.

It didn't get rid of the file, but it's still a handy program to use.

norton 360 the worst experience ever on this computer. for four hours they had my computer under there control and installed 360. After which nothing worked properly almost total disaster.
Contacting them is impossible the company should be put out of bussiness. many others have had similar problems with them in all areasShould any good atty,s want to start a suit against them, I would contribute.
