Europcar Complaint - Terrible service, overcharges
I echo the other complaints about this car rental firm. Avoid them at all cost. I picked up a car on a Sunday in Bordeaux, France at the train station. I had booked it online and paid in advance. I had to wait for two hours while the attendant was at lunch. My two companions and I then had to traipse up and down through the train station with our luggage to pick up the car on the other side. There was no one at the car park. We noticed a long scratch of paint on the bumper but because we were already late and needed to travel 4 hours on unfamiliar roads before dark and there was major construction for blocks around the train station with many detours, we did not go back to the original person and show her the scratch. When we returned the car, we explained this to the attendant and he seemed to indicate that it was no big deal. When I returned home I was sent a bill for a railway surcharge, an extra day and a 167 euro damage charge (about $220. I have been trying since April (now June) to get someone at the company to respond to me. They have terrible customer service. They do not respond to hard copy mail or 6 emails. They have sent courtesy emails saying someone will respond and then I hear nothing.
