Quiznos Subs Complaint - Found Bug in Flatbread Salad at Quiznos

Review by Angelica on 2007-06-23
CHICAGO, ILLINOIS -- My parents are weekly Roasted Chicken Flatbed salad buyers at the Quiznos (Store# 2879 in Chicago IL. 60707. This Friday, June 23rd around 7:30 PM. When they got home my parents started to eat their salads and that's when my father realize that there was something moving in the salad and it was some kind of bug. He immediately put the lid over the salad and placed it back in the bag and in the kitchen cabinet. The Quiznos had already closed for the night so it was nothing them could do. My father called me around 6 am Saturday morning saying that he felt
sick and my mother was throwing up because of what she saw in his salad. Is it a way to test this salad for bacteria since they still have the salad in their possession. I don't know what to do, my brother who lives with them told me that they are vowing never to eat salads again
and this is disturbing to me because they are in their late 50's and are eating healthier these days and I'm afraid this will set them back. Maybe this was just a one-time thing but shouldn't the employees take the time to inspect the salad that they prepare and be held accountable?

Like I mentioned before, they were avid lovers of Quiznos salads and now they aren't fans of any salads. What a difference one unfortunate incident did.

They know the employees at this store and loved their salads until now. Any advice from those of you who were in similar situation. The owner says there is nothing he can do about it but give them a coupon. (Like they wan't to eat something else there-yeah right) I'm just glad they didn't get serious sick (food poisoning, hepatitis) and for now it's just a lot of mental anguish cause by this.

How long did they eat the salad before they noticed the bug, how do they know it did not crawl in there after they took it home. If they are discoruaged from eating salad there are other healthy foods they can eat, don't blame Quizzno's just because they decide to eat unhealthy. I think you are just laying it thick when you said that they will never touch a salad again.

How do they know it wasn't something else that they may have eaten?? Just cause they found a bug, doesn't mean the salad made them sick.

Next time, let your parents write up the complaint.

They couldn't write the complaint, PWP, they are under "Mental Anquish"................

Oh please, are you saying in their 50+ years of life they have never found a bug in their food? It happens, even at the best of restaurants.

I'm in my forties, and I haven't found a bug in my food brenda. Maybe you should fire the cook at home !

Last week we ate at J. Gilbert's which is a pretty pricey restaurant. My husband found a fly in his soup. We told the waitress and they comped our entire parties appetizers and desserts (7 people). It happens.

Skye Aubrey - I don't think that they got physically sick because they the salad, I think they were emotionally sick at the sight of seeing the bug in the salad.

Exactelly Brenda, just think of all the bugs you ate without realising it, then they have something to really feel "sick" over.

Posted by *Brenda* on 2007-06-24:
Oh I mind prcalmb4storm, it's just that I realize things like this happen and you don't have to make a huge fuss about it.

First of all thank you for all your comments, both positive and negative. My parents are not computer savvy and have no knowledge of this consumer website, it was all my doing. I may have just overeacted but they sounded so bad over the phone so I found this site on google and thought this was a where you can express both positive and negative experiences as a consumer to see if others experience something similar. I'm sorry to those of you that I angered with this post. I won't be so hasty next time. Well after contacting the very nice manager, Ken, at that Quiznos he instantly knew my parents when I describe them and express disappointment and vowed to contact the vendor. He even insisted that I give him their phone number so he could offer to personally prepare their salads to regain their confidence. To make a long story short, they were so flattered by his thoughtful phone call and efforts to retain them as customers, that my parents took him up on his offer and will try to put this incident behind them. I told them it was just probably emotions that cause feelings of temporary sickness and nothing else. Great job, Ken. Your customer service skills are an A+

Your parents may not be computer savy and may not have knowledge of this website, but you could have had them type the letter anyway. I am sure they know how to type.
Posted by Angelica on 2007-07-03:
Ghostbuster thanks for your response. I'm sure they would have love to type a letter themselves but you see my mother attended school up to 3rd grade and my father never attended school. They grew up in the South (Alabama) at that time in the 1950's working in the fields was priority over education. So typing for them would have been a bit of a struggle. As a result of their upbring, they have always encouraged my brother and I to do our best in school. Anyway, like I said in the earlier post, the owner was very understanding and nice to them and they are still customers. So all is well. God bless.

Bugs are gross, but what makes you think the salad would have HEPATITIS? Hepatitis can only be found in humans and primates, not bugs.

ewwwwwwww I would have been pissed and grossed out too. All the people saying things happen. Yes, they do but it is a health hazard and they should have at least given the money back!

most bugs dont actually pose a health hazard if eatin some have protien and other things needed to survive flys and ticks may have dieses but i know for a fact besides being grossed out or vomiting from being grossed out eating a cockroach wont make you sick i would have to know excatly what bug it was but im pretty sure it was the thought of a bug in the food not the bug itself that made them sick
