General Motors Informative - GM CARS SPY ON YOU!
All GM cars are now shipped with Onstar as a standard feature. The Onstar module contains a GPS unit which tracks the location of your vehicle. Most dealers now provide 6 months of free service when you buy the car. However, even after this 6 month trial period is over, your Onstar unit still tracks your location and reports that data to Onstar which logs the data and stores it for a period of time (possibly years) and will make that data available to any requesting law enforcement agency without a warrant. DON'T BELIEVE THEIR LIES TO THE CONTRARY. This is bad enough, but wait, IT GET'S EVEN WORSE.... The built-in Onstar microphone can be turned on remotely, without any indication, to listen into and record your conversations. THERE HAVE BEEN SEVERAL VERIFIABLE COURT CASES WHERE THE ONSTAR or ATX MICROPHONES WERE USED TO RECORD CONVERSATIONS, AND INDIVIDUALS WERE SUCCESSFULLY PROSECUTED. For all of you doubters out there, google "onstar privacy". While this product appears to be an important safety device, and when used properly it is, until Onstar REDESIGNS it's unit to operate only during an emergency and to remain in an unuseable state if the service is not subscribed to, serious privacy concerns will continue. GM should not include this as standard equipment, should require written notice to all buyers of these security issues, and should ship the units in a deactivated mode which requires a PHYSICAL ACTION to power up and activate the unit. Another device in your car that is called a crash data recorder, records your speed, if you were wearing seat belts, how many people were in the car, etc. and this data can be extracted with a handheld device by police and insurance companies. Even though you own the car, this data does not belong to you, and can be used against you if you are involved in an accident. I personally don't need or want any of these devices in my car and until GM GETS OUT OF THE SPYING BUSINESS, I WILL NOT BUY THEIR CARS! AND NEITHER SHOULD YOU.
