DirecTV Inc Complaint - Rebate not Paid but Cancellation Fee Charged!
First let me say that for the short time that I had directv (8 mos.) I absolutely loved the service. I unfortunately was relocated and had to cancel my service. I switched from DishNetwork to DirecTV because of great promotion they were running on the HD receiver ($200 rebate). I also signed up for the DVR, which I never intended, but it was also free after rebate. Well it turns out that DirecTV only issued the $100 for the DVR. The HD receiver was denied because the noted I did not have one on record. This was odd because my reciept clearly showed the receiver and I was paying for the HD service. It turns out that DirecTV made a mistake entering the information in the system. I was to get the $200. But it never came. Then I was transferred and I get an early termination fee of $175! I asked about the $200 and they said I am not eligible because I could not get two rebates. This is when things started to sour because they were not being truthful. I maintain digital pictures of all my rebates, so I pulled it up. Sure enough the rebate is eligible for a total of $300. Great I thought. After some email communication, my account was credited $200. Then 2 months later, I recieve a letter from a collection agency saying I owe $175. What? No letter, no bill, just a collection notice. At this point the customer service representatives will not talk to me. I am just trying to figure out why the credit was reversed. So I formally wrote to DirecTV. I got their response today saying that the rebate was non-monetary credit and non-refundable as they are meant to apply to programming. Sorry for the long winded story. I have the $175 to pay, but it is about the right thing to do here. DirecTV made a mistake processing my equipment which negated my rebate. They acknowledged the mistake. But they still want the $175. What should I do? I am concerned about the risk involved with the collection process if I do not pay immediately.
