VolksWagen Complaint - Poor manufacturing if a 1999 required repeat service in a six mth timeframe
ONTARIO, CANADA -- Hi - I own a 99 Jetta GLS. I bought this car because they boast about how it is perfect for a commuter to drive - I am a commuter - I needed a car that could go the distance with me. By 40,000 kms, I had to replace the relay switch (turn signals control), pay out of pocket for four new tires because VW contracted to Firestone who put tires that later were noticed to wear EXCESSIVLY (in half the time actually) - but no one told me - so unless I noticed and called my dealer to inquire about it - I have to pay. I drive with two small children in my car and cannot believe no one informs a customer that the tires under their car (their lifeline at 100 kms a hour) have a tendency to wear and blow up!!
In February of this year (2002) I had to take my car into the dealer because my front passenger window pane dropped into the door panel!! I live in Ontario - in the middle of winter I had no passenger window on a 11/2 yr old $40,000 car!! They charged me $12 for replacing the clips and $140 (!!) for two hour of labour - because my commuter car was over that magicall 40,ooo kms number. Then today - June 24th 2002 I had to again take the car into the dealer for the same window problem - only this time they say the cables frayed - never once lowered the power window since the repair in February. Who looks at a car for 2 hours and doesn't see frayed cables - no one - because there were no frayed cables - and there cannot be any today because things do not break if they have not been touched or in use. The dealer simply does not want to admit to an error.
I hate my Jetta !! I hate the arrogant greedy people who work for the VW corporation or any of the two dealers I've tried to deal with - all a money grab and customer service is not an issue once they get your money. I will park my car and walk before I pay for this window. Besides being incredibly annoyed and frustrated at being treated like an insignificant person with an insignificant issue - I no longer feel safe in my 1999 "new" car - certainly not safe enough to trust such an organization's engineering with the life of my two children - aged 9 and 3.
Driver's wanted is what they advertise - but you cannot be a driver for VW if the car is always in the repair shop.
One time I needed to repair a back bumper, which in all fairness was the result of someone re-ending me, but the body shop person (contracted by the dealer) told me that the car had two tones of paint on it - he didn't believe me that it was a new car - he was adament that it had to have been in a prior accidnet. Statedthat clearly!! - VW denies this of course, but it does explain how a window can be thrown out of whack. I believe it's the root of the problem - the window is no longer in-line with the power mechanisms.
No one will do a thing to make this right - I know that - so all I can do now is educate others to not waste their hard earned money on a VW product.
