Uncle Bobs Self Storage Informative - Continuing Monthly Rent, Even Though I Vacated

Review by MENTA on 2007-06-30
DORAVILLE, GEORGIA -- I told them that I was only going to rent for a month because I could not afford it. They will not make any payment arrangements with me. Instead the manager said that I will be billed for each month until I pay it all off. As every month goes by it becomes harder for me to come up with the money, since the balance continues to go up. I told him to go ahead and rent it to someone else, but he said he had no authority to do so, I must pay, and it is still my unit. I thought according to Ga law 10-4-213 that I can be charged after 30 days for 1 month. The money is only for the clean up of the storage unit, and it "is left in a good state of repair, and in a broom swept condition, then this amount shall be refunded to the Occupant" This place is trying the strong arm tactic, which is totally illegal, and I wounder how many other customers they have done this to?

Do you have anything like a contract?

I think we need more details here, it doesn't seem logical that if you vacate a storage unit, that they will continue to charge you for each month until it's paid in full and that they cannot rent the unit to someone else. What do your contract terms state?
