Spirit Airlines Informative - Lost Luggage
Spirit Airlines provides, bar none, the worst service in the industry. If you must fly with them, and I deeply discourage it, under no circumstances check your bags. Mine (and several other passengers') bags were lost on a recent trip to Costa Rica. We were utterly unable to contact any representatives using any method -- fax, phone, email, etc. We had people in the States working on the problem while we worked on it from Costa Rica, all to no avail. We couldn't contact anyone in person -- all was voicemail. The one time we did contact a representative they were completely unwilling to help.
We ultimately took the situation into our own hands (and wallets) days after the loss by paying to fly back to the San Jose airport from the coast on a whim just in case the luggage happened to be sitting in the airport. By some miracle, we found them stuck in an office.
I have experienced lost luggage on other occasions and have always found other airlines to be concerned, responsive and quick to rectify the situation. Spirit, on the other hand, clearly had no intention of following up on our problem. I shudder to think where our possessions would have ended up had we not taken a chance and searched the airport three days into the incident.
There is no way to explain the level of frustration we felt in trying to deal with what is, essentially, a scam operation. To add insult to injuiry, I had to pay a last-minute booking fortune to return on another carrier because I was so afraid of having another lost luggage experience. Spirit is a disgrace.
