Southern Bell Complaint - Serious billing error

Review by weavingtangledweb on 2002-07-07
FLORIDA -- Southern Bell received a check from my daughter for $35.54 and when they entered the amount into the computer, it was entered as $355.43. My daughter was unaware of this when her checks began to bounce and she was forced to pay overdraft fees. She only found out what Southern Bell had done when she received an envelope (not a phone call) from them with a check for the overdrawn amount. In the meantime, they have not acknowledged, apologized, or offered to contact her creditors to explain that she was not at fault. She is disabled with a central nervous system injury and with her disability she is unable to handle stress. When she calls Southern Bell she is always somehow mysteriously disconnected before she can reach someone with whom she can file a complaint.

I'd contact the consumer protection agency of your state. Doesn't the bank even read these checks.

Something similar happened to me. I accidentally mailed my rent check to Sprint and they cashed it. THen, they didn't want to refund my money but only give me credit on my account.
