Samoset Resort Complaint - Hotel Desk Clerk Stealing Money
ROCKPORT, MAINE -- I made a reservation at the Samoset Resort for the 4th of July weekend (Thursday - Sunday) for a Deluxe Ocean Front View Room at $259 per night. This reservation was guaranteed with a major credit card and was arranged through TravelHero.Com. Upon arrival at the hotel, my boyfriend also had his credit card placed on record for room charges.
On Friday morning (the day after our arrival, I went to the Front Desk and was assisted by Elizabeth Little (5'5", 145-150#, dark hair, caucassion, average looks) to inquire whether it was possible to pay in advance for the next two nights accommodations in cash and leave the first evening on my credit card. I explained that we had already charged several things to the room, and whether it was possible to leave these charges as they were. I was informed that there would not be a problem in doing any of this. Elizabeth calculated the room charge, $511.46. I handed her $520. She gave me a printout of the current room charges as requested and the receipt for my charge card. She told me that the computer system did not allow for printout of advance charges but assured me that my hotel room charges would not appear on the bill for checkout on Sunday. I checked the printout but learned later that I did not scrutinize it carefully enough.
Upon receiving my checkout bill, low and behold the hotel room charges were there. I went to the Front Desk and Elizabeth was on. I explained the problem. She informed me that I never gave her the money. Unbeknownst to me, she had entered into the computer that I had given her $151, which she applied to the room charges. There was no computer record of the $520 I had given her to cover the hotel accommodations. It never occured to me at a 5-star resort, I would need to worry how a transaction was recorded.
The hotel audited her drawer, however, it being two days after the transaction and a holiday weekend, it was not surprising to find out there was no discrepancy.
The hotel informed me there was nothing they could do and that I had no recourse.
I urge everyone NOT to pay cash for any services at this hotel if you have the misfortunte of dealing with Elizabeth Little. It is obvious from the actions of this individual, that dishonesty is an acceptable practice of conducting business at the Samoset Resort in Rockport, Maine.
