Spirit Airlines Complaint - Spirit Airlines is the worst air carrier in the world
FT.LAUDERDALE, FLORIDA -- I had a terrible experience with this company and hope to never have to fly them again. Here are the highlights of this recent experience:
1. I purchased two airfares for the 4th of July holiday trip through Orbitz.com and everything was confirmed. Over 24 hours later I find out from Orbitz that Spirit is not confirming the tickets. Due to time lost I had to purchase different tickets at a higher price.
2. I found out about the Spirti's new ridiculous luggage policy and went ahead and paid the luggage fee on their website for both ways. I had a copy of this purchase as an electronic receipt from them. When my flight going back home on July 4, 07 got cancelled (next item) and I had to wait over 24 hours to get on an available plane, I was told that I did not purchase any luggage check-in and have to pay again. After getting engaged in some hot and passionate arguing with the airline's numerous but not very useful crew, which was too busy pushing us around multiple long lines, I was finally taken in by a decent (at last!) employee Aubrey, who checked me in and did not make me pay for the same thing again.
3. On July 4 I was ready to go home on a plane that leaves at 4:05 PM, as I had to work the next day. There were no warning, bad weather or any obvious bombing around, yet something told me to check my flight on the web prior to heading to the airport. Sure enough, my flight table had red all over it: CANCELLED". There was no explanation nor were there any directions as to the next steps... Instead, there was an hour long wait on the phone with Spirit's customer service until I was able to get a live person, who sounded very surprised that my flight got cancelled and asked me if there was any bad weather in the vicinity... Some more minutes of meaningful conversation later I have been told that I can get on a plane the next day at 8:05 PM. Again, there was no explanation, no apology, no attempts to help me get home in time for work and car parking reservation... Luckily, I had a place to sleep and I had food.
I already mentioned what happened to my prepaid luggage reservation in #2.
So, finally I made it home at 1 AM on July 6th instead of 8 PM on July 4th...
To sum it all up, one day of work lost, an extra charge for additional stay at the car parking lot paid, a ton of nerves wasted, and this completely exhausted traveller had to get up 5 hours later to get ready for work after a "refreshing" holiday trip. Flying Spirit was a huge mistake and they dared to charge us a buck per cup of a nasty coffee!
