Giant Grocery Store Complaint - Rude cashier

Review by Anonymous on 2002-07-16
CENTREVILLE, VIRGINIA -- While looking for a checkout line at Giant, it was announced over the intercom that Line 5 was opening. Since I was standing right there, I filed into line behind another woman and waited for the line to open. As the cashier came around, she walked toward me and ordered me to step back to let in a gentleman from the next line over. I obliged although I was confused; I wasn't in a big hurry. He insisted I got there before him and would not get in line before me. The cashier then proceeded to tell the customer in front of me, within earshot of me and the other customers, that she saw me trying to cut in line before the man. She also said she "hates people like that who think they deserve to be in front of you just because they're faster than you." She went on and on, and then when it was my turn she tried to start a conversation like nothing had happened. I was too shocked to respond, I felt like a child who had been bad in school. I am not the kind of person who would purposely cut off someone, but even if I had her behavior was completely unacceptable and unjustified.

I've often wondered if we could sue either the stores or the ad. agencies for False Advertising when they present the cashiers and store assistants as smiling and friendly in TV advertisements.....
