US Airways Complaint - FF Miles awarded on Pseudo-direct flights
This is of particular interest to former America West customers that aren't used to being treated as doddering dolts the way that legacy U.S. Airways personnel apparently treat customers. This is one of several bad experiences I've had with US "East" since the merger. I've flown regularly with America West since about 1993.
I booked travel to Europe from Phoenix on US Airways that had a transfer in Philadelphia. I found it curious that the entire flight bore the same flight number from PHX to the destination because there are no direct flights from PHX to Europe, and one has to change planes, change terminals, clear customs on the return, in PHL (o CLT) regardless of how the flight is badged. After the flight, when I looked at my dividend miles account, they had credited mileage as if it was a "direct" flight which is defined, by them, as a flight that has a stop(s) but requires no change of aircraft *and* no change in flight number. When I first contacted US Div. Miles about this, I was given this very definition as the reason that I was credited several hundred miles less than when I flew the same route several months before with different flight numbers. I then wrote back and spelled out for them that there indeed was a plane change and all the hassle that goes with making an international connection in PHL. They then wrote back, contradicting themselves, saying that because they had (arbitrarily) badged the segments with the same flight number, it was considered direct regardless of the aircraft arrangements. At this point, I copied all the emails and sent them to Customer Relations in Phoenix, which I believe is former America West-staffed as they seem to be moderately responsive and logical, and while I haven't received a formal response, I did get a credit for the miles in my account. The reason I'm writing this review, is that even in success, they failed, as the missing miles credit does not qualify for preferred status! So, as fair warning, if you value every mile and segment that you earn, DO NOT BOOK CONNECTING FLIGHTS ON US AIRWAYS THAT BEAR THE SAME FLIGHT NUMBER ON BOTH SEGMENTS. You will lose a segment and some miles.
