National Car Rental Complaint - National Is The Worst
National is the worst! I booked one-way flight from LA to IL to get my boys for summer visitation. Booked rental with national to drive back home because youngest son cant fly. Landed in IL late afternoon on Friday. National says cant rent with a debit card unless I've got a roundtrip ticket!?! Now why would I book a roundtrip ticket when I'm not returning the car to IL?!? 2 hours later after numerous calls to 800#s talking to foreigner with accents so thick I could not understand a word. Disconnected four times. Ex-wife getting meaner every passing minute. Finally get a supervisor on phone. Also foreigner. Who only stated company policy which is in fine small print at bottom on 3rd page of online printout that debit cards May only be used in conjunction with proof of round trip ticket. But when you book online the pop-up screen for reservation requirements only states that I'd need a clean driving record, a major credit card or debit card and valid driver's license. Supervisor could not explain reason for "company policy" other than "security". So I was fixing to be stranded 1000 miles from home no way to get my boys for a stupid company policy... No apologies. No help. I called hertz. Booked a car immediately. Gal stayed on the phone with me until I got the keys used my debit card. Didn't have to have a return ticket. And all they did was run a credit check. I was taken care of by Hertz.
I will never recommend use or say a good thing about national.
