Goldkress Corporation - DBA Goldkress Investment Corp. Complaint - Ex-Renter - Future Renters Beware

Review by JMCKENNE on 2007-07-13
NEWPORT NEWS, VIRGINIA -- Warning !!! To anyone planning to move into any rental properties owned by Goldkress Investment Corporation d/b/a Goldkress Corporation , 11116 jefferson ave, newport news, va 23601. I was a previous tenant at regency square apartments for 21/2 years. I advise you to keep all receipts-security deposit amounts, give a 30 day notice before moving out, and schedule a time to do move-out inspection, and most importantly stay on this company's butt about getting your security deposit back. Going on the advice of a friend that works for this company , I waited after 60 day before I questioned when I would receive my refund. The receptionist was very uncaring and unconcerned about the the fact that they have not processed or even thought about processing my refund. I would get promises on when they would mail the check to me and that never happened. In a nut shell , they would give me the run around, I have just rec'd my refund from them after 90 days. So , in my eyes this shows a lot about this companies integrity and motives.

Moved 4/05 - moved out 4/07

Anyone who waits 60 days for a security deposit refund, is just asking for trouble.

That sure doesn't sound like a friend. I hope you bought your own home. Paying rent is a financial waste, and it's money being thrown away. Why pay someone else's mortage.

In some states you can get double or even triple your deposit if the landlord does not give you written notice within 30 day as to why they are not giving you back your deposit. Check with your state's Attorney General.

Here is some helpful information from the Washington Post about Virginia Law.

When you move out, your landlord must return the deposit to you within 45 days of the end of your tenancy. The landlord also must provide a written, itemized list of the interest accrued and any charges or deductions taken from it.

If, during your tenancy or after you move out, your landlord decides to make deductions from the deposit, he must notify you in writing within 30 days of that decision and give you an itemized list detailing why such action is being taken.

Security deposits held for more than 13 months earn interest. For all rental agreements signed or renewed after January 1, 1995, interest accrues in six month periods at a rate equal to the Federal Reserve Board's discount rate as of January 1 of each year.
