AT&T Wireless Complaint - AT&T Illegal Domestic Spying Program
WASHINGTON, DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA -- I have been a loyal customer of AT&T/Cingular/AT&T Again since 2001 and was shocked and angry to learn that they collaborated with the National Security Agency in its massive, illegal wiretapping of cell phone conversations. The Electronic Frontier Foundation (EFF) is filing a class-action lawsuit and I have registered my complaints with AT&T both over the phone and in writing. I was even more saddened to learn that none of the customer service representatives with which I spoke had ever heard of wiretapping, the NSA, or that AT&T was involved.
According to the EFF "The NSA has been intercepting Americans' phone calls and Internet communications without any court oversight and in violation of the privacy safeguards established by Congress and the U.S. Constitution. This surveillance program, purportedly authorized by the President at least as early as 2001, apparently intercepts and analyzes the phone and Internet communications of millions of ordinary Americans."
The lawsuit alleges that AT&T gave the NSA "unchecked backdoor access to its communications network and its record databases." EFF is suing AT&T for violating the law and freedoms of its customers (as well as the American public).
