Meijer, Inc. Informative - Check out monitors - Forced Advertisements
KALAMAZOO, MICHIGAN -- The Meijers store on Westnedge in Kalamazoo has monitors placed at each checkout lane. They have the volume so loud that you are just about unable to have a conversation. The sound is directional so that the cashier is not forced to hear it, just the customers standing in line.
The monitors are on a swivel, so today I reached up and turned it away from me so that I could talk to my wife. The cashier called the assistant manager and he threatened to ban me from the store if I moved the monitor from it's "required" direction.
I left my groceries on the conveyor and walked out. When I got to the parking lot, the person that was in line behind me had also walked out.
If Meijers is so hard up for the advertising dollar, it might be a good idea to look elsewhere. Todays debacle cost them about $200 in sales.
I know that will not be missed at the end of the day, but every little bit helps to tell them to quit forcing advertising down our throats!
