Applebee's Complaint - Waitress told us: "The Kids Are Cuter," is why she won't refill our water glasses!
LAWRENCE, KANSAS -- At approximately 5pm Friday 20 July 2007, my husband and I walked into the 3900 W. 6th Street Lawrence, KS 66049 location of Applebee's and the FIRST thing I noticed was the disgustingly foul odor emanating from the stack of plastic kid seats.
Several of these kid chairs were covered not only in just smell, but plainly visible vomit drip stains and dried chunks. Thank God, we were only there with the chairs long enough for a shiver and a grimace before being seated.....
Right next to a horde of screeching howler monkeys.
We ordered onion rings, Aloha burger and an Angus burger with ice water to drink. We received only the one ice water. We finally managed to grab the attention of the waitress to ask for a re-fill of water, to which she responded, "Sorry, but the KIDS are CUTER," and never returned!
We THEN grabbed the attention of one of the "To Go" girls standing by the door to ask for a box for our unfinished portion of food and our check.
Our waitress couldn't even be bothered to collect our money from us for the check!
The "To Go" girl brought us our check and I walked it up to the manager and told him what the waitress had said about not wanting to bring us any refill on the water because "the kids are cuter," and that I hope those cute kids come up with a nice big fat healthy TIP for her, because she ROYALLY screwed herself out of any extra money from US!
The manager barely managed to lift an eyebrow in response. I asked him if he had any plans to want to try to offer us any incentive to ever want to come back. He asked "What is it you want me to do?" I said, "I don't know, isn't there at least some sort of coupon or something you could extend for poor service?" He then said "I could get you both a couple of waters to go; I mean, what do you want? You want a free dessert or something, or what? I could give you a to-go dessert."
His tone was: "Aw, crap, another belly-acher; what can I do to make you shut up and go away?"
$28 for two people and we were treated FAR WORSE than had we spent $4.27 at McDonald's.
So we left without receiving any compensation at all. I *DO* plan to follow up with (888)59APPLE and ask whomever answers if this is the sort of example of standard operating procedure with regard to customer service, if this is really what they want all customers to go away with.
I eat out only about maybe twice a year and THIS is WHY. Customer service just seems to be getting WORSE and WORSE every time I get the "bright" idea to venture out and try again.
