Scott Bennett Construction, Inc. Complaint - Trim Work Disaster
MURFREESBORO, TENNESSEE -- We had this company come out to our house to do some custom trim work. The sales man came to our house and showed us 15,000 dollar fireplaces and trim work that they did in million dollar homes.
We were looking to spend around 5-7 thousand dollars. We were treated like this was not even enough for them to bother with us. The salesman started to measure our house and then quit halfway. We asked him if he needed to measure the bathroom and he said he had what he needed. We thought this was strange that he did not measure it. He left and said he would get back to us with a quote.
About a week went by and then some guy out of the blue called us and said he did contract work for them for the "small jobs". We had no idea that a 5-7 thousand dollar job was small. We were not looking to spend 50 thousand dollars on trim work for a house that is only worth 250 thousand since we will be selling it soon.
We contracted with the guy that did the "small jobs". We had a hard time trying to explain to him what we wanted. We could not get on the same page so we took some pictures of what we wanted and showed him. He said he could do that and we paid him almost 2 thousand dollars to get started on our job.
What we wanted
What we got
He finished part our job over the arches of our house. We came home and it looked nothing like the pictures we presented and agreed upon. It looked like he just hung boards on the wall. They had no detail and were very plain. We had to rip all the molding off the wall because it made the house look really bad. It is a modern house with several arches. It now looked like an old farm house. I think he knew how to do simple jobs such as hanging crown molding but that is not what we were looking for. We wanted molding similar to other houses in our neighborhood, not simple pieces of uncarved wood hung on the wall.
We are very upset with the way we were treated by the salesman and completely upset with his recommendation. He should never have recommended this level of skill for our house. He should have given us a quote at the very least. We have now wasted 2 thousand dollars and have nothing to show for it.
