Claim Jumper Restaurant Complaint - Pork Ribs - Food

Review by VOOTIE on 2007-07-22
CLACKAMAS, OREGON -- July 14, 2007, Claim Jumper Restaurant, 9085 SE Sunnyside, Clackamas, Oregan 97015, is located outside the Clackamas Mall. The Claim Jumper is a new restaurant with a mining theme. The night we were there the place was jam packed and we waited one hour and forty-five minutes to be seated. Crazy, I know, but we wanted to try it out. After being seated at a booth in the cavernous restaurant, we looked through the large menu from which I chose the 1/2 Rack Pork Rib dinner with steak fries and a corn muffin. In half an hour our food arrived. My half rack of ribs filled my plate with just enough room for my fries. They looked appealing so I jumped right in and took my first bite. Not bad flavor, but tough meat. The ribs were over cooked. The outer meat was pork jerky and the meat on the bone was a bit stringy. The BBQ sauce was a bit tangy and the taste reminded me of something out of a bottle like you can buy at the supermarket. The fries were done to perfection and the corn muffin was heavy, probably weighing in at half pound if I had a scale to weigh it. The cost: 1/2 rack pork ribs $21.95, plus a Jumpers Gold Margarita $8.25. Other dinners purchased: Salmon Dinner $22.95 and 1/2 Country Fried Steak $13.25 with a Strawberry Shake $5.25. Total dining experience $71.65. Save your money and SKIP the Pork Ribs, definitely not worth trying and quite expensive.

Claim Jumper probably is a gold mine for the owners, but not a good value.

Claim Jumper has been a great place if you ask me, the food has always been good and I still want to try out that Mother Lode cake....we each get the meal of our choice, take 2/3rds home and have two more meals apiece from it.

Our son and daughter introduced us to the Claim Jumper a couple of years ago by sending us gift certificates. Any time you go to a Claim Jumper you are going to have to wait, as they are busy and always packed. I thought wow, the booths are so big! I found out why when our meal was brought out. If I had the opportunity, I would eat every meal at the Claim Jumper. I am sorry you were not happy with what is usually one of their best dishes. Did you mention any of this to the waitstaff? It has been our experience that if there is even the lsightest thing wrong, they will move heaven and earth to fix it. You say it is a new place. How long, exactly, has it been in operation? It could be because it is a new store. Our first time at CJ fed us that evening, plus two more meals at home. Please give them another chance later on. I am sure that your ribs weere an anomaly, and that if you mention a problem, you will be treated like royalty.

Dry pork ribs are a culinary crime! Thanks to the OP for introducing the city "Clackamas" to me. It's kind of a fun word to say! Clackamas, Clackamas, Clackamas....

lid: I go there also, love the seafood. But living in Memphis, just can't get myself to do the bq.

Mangomaiden....apparently, you've never been to the Rendezvous in Memphis, order: appetizer: cheese & sausage platter, pitcher of beer.....meal, rack of dry ribs, coleslaw, beans...pitcher of beer...desert: go to the lobby of the Peabody Hotel (where the Mississippi Delta starts) and people watch at the bar.
yea, clackamas...cool word. wonder what it means.

Jktshff1 - in fact, I have been to Rendezvous; I did my undergrad U of M, and I absolutely LOOOOVE the pork shoulder at Rendezvous. I didn't mean that ribs made with a dry rub are bad, but rather, when the meat is cooked so much that it retains no juciness whatsoever. Even if they are smoked, ribs should never be chalky! On that note, let's go have some ribs and a few beers!
