Lightning moving inc. Complaint - House move - house moving service

Review by peterdj on 2007-07-25
LAKELAND, FLORIDA -- This company gave an estimate for $475 to move from one three bedroom house to another..a distance of seven miles. The men refused to unload our effects until we paid them $2700 which apparently included $2000 in packing. They threatened to take our furniture away unless we paid them. I was forced to sign a credit card charge. Isubsequently cancelled the charge with Discover while they investigated. They now say that as I signed they had no choice but to honor the charge. The moving company made false statements to the credit card company and appear to have altered documents to strengthen their case. I am taking them to small claims court to try and recover some of the money I was forced to pay.

Why wouldn't you just call the police when they refused to unload your furniture?

Lightning moving, inc certainly doesn't sound like a reputable company that I would want to do business with. Good luck in court peterdj, I hope it works out in your favor.

Why didn't I call the police? At that time I didn't know my rights. Their insurance company is now trying to negotiate a settlement before the court case comes up. Doe that say something about this company?

Follow up to this story is that I took them to small claims and they didn't turn up. I was awarded over $6000 by default and my attorney is pursuing settlement. The owner had told me I was wasting my time and his at the negotiation stage and told me he would sell the business before I got anything. He did just that, but I sued him as an individual and the company.
