Call them and find out! I don't eat their bread anyways...I use Nature's Own.

Never heard of it, but I'll be on the lookout for it the next time I'm out shopping for groceries. Or is it a local bakery?

It sounds like they may have changed their recipe.Did you write to them and ask them why the bread is different?sometimes companies change the recipe to gauge consumer opinions, maybe if enough people write and say they don't like the new bread they might change it back.

We also have found Merita bread is not good anymore. It has hard spots in it, the crust falls off, the taste has changed (and not for the better,) it's too grainy, has holes all through it, and doesn't seem fresh from the moment you bring it home. We've bought it for years, but will be looking for a new bread.

Simbabe is probably right... Merita bread, by Interstate bakeries used to be nice and soft and mushy. Another brand of theirs was RAINBO bread which was sold in Michigan and had the same recipe. The brand was discontinued years ago.

We can't even find it in Moncks Corner any more, hate that because I grew up on it and can't find another bread that I like

merita bread is part of hostess and they shut down. someone else bought the rights a few months back. and if you look it up online you will find the original recipe for the old fashioned bread that's soft and great that I grew up on as well is natures own white wheat. I tried 20 diff breads and was googeling one night and came across it and picked up a loaf and my mouth watered when I tasted it..
