Lowe's Compliment - Delayed Return Accepted
WHITE LAKE, MICHIGAN -- Last July I ordered two Kitchen Maid made-to-order matched kitchen islands from the White Lake, Michigan Lowe's. They arrived about four weeks later - one island was 6' and the other 4'. The islands were very expensive but it was what I wanted. The large one was exactly as I had hoped. The second smaller island once unpacked I noticed did not arrive with the doors or hardware on. There was a VERY small piece of paper in the box that said Kitchen Maid in order to send both items together was 'unable to complete the order'.
My brother is a carpenter and said he would put the doors on -it wasn't a big deal. Like most brothers he didn't actually look that them until just before Christmas. When he inspected the doors he said that they didn't have the right hardware and that he could get similar hardware for me but it would not match the other island exactly. He recommended I return the smaller island.
I called the store and explained the problem. I had not actually used the island but it had sat in my kitchen for over five months by this time. The afternoon manager said to bring it in and I was given a full refund.
I have to admit that over the five months prior to the return I cursed Lowes and Kitchen Maid more times than I can count. I don't understand why the Kitchen Maid Cabinetry Company would send unfinished furniture to a customer and not even provide them with the right materials, nor why Lowes staff was not advised on the box exterior the island was not fully assembled (or even complete). It was really Kitchen Maids fault however I remain thankful Lowe's was so understanding of my situation especially since it took me so long to return the item. I would highly recommend the White Lake Lowe's store anyone in the Detroit area - even if they have to go past other Lowe's store to get there.
