FORT SMITH, ARKANSAS -- As a consumer from your state, I felt it was my responsibility to bring to your attention the following incident.
I am asking as tax paying, law abiding and rental property owner of this state to review and change the laws regarding property rights of any and all landlords. My complaint that concerns me the most is the fact that anyone can move into your property (even verified tenants), tear the property to shreds, not pay rent and then the LANDLORD must go spend more money in evicting the tenant. Recently I had a tenant who is receiving SSI and did not pay their rent. I was under the huge misunderstanding that the SSI participant was supposed to use those funds for their basic needs. We as landlords and property owners need protection from people who are collecting money from the government (whom we pay) and does not pay their rent.
As a resolution, I would like the following:
I would like to see the Attorney General's Office review and change the policy that when participant's are on disability that their rent is sent directly to the property owner as HUD does.
