Meijer, Inc. Complaint - Overcharging - Overcharging on items in store

Overcharging on items in store - Complaint
Review by mark_2222 on 2007-08-02
SPRINGFIELD, ILLINOIS -- Well it finally happened. I received a letter from Meijer's Corporate Office today informing me to shop elsewhere. I have been overcharged many times over the years at a Meijer store and all I did was point it out to them. I guess Meijer doesn't like being told that their stores overcharge customers at the scanners.

You can report this to the state. They did a report about this here in Texas about a year ago saying how if a store overcharges customers they can actually be shut down until all their prices on products and scanners match correctly. Try sending a letter to your state Attorney General with a copy of the letter then sent you and the one you sent them see what they can do.

They told you (in letter form) that they dont want your business?
Were you cool with them,or were you unreasonable?

Would you explain further please? Overcharging for what? I don't understand the problem.

I was overchaged on sale items at the scanner. These were items that were on sale but the wrong price was charged by the scanner. All I did was inform the Manager and Corporate Office of being overcharges many times at this store. Each time I was given an excuse of why it happenned, but not to my satisfaction. Finally, Meijer sent me a letter telling me to shop elsewhere. I always wrote professional letters informing them of being overcharged by that store. Why should the customer be the bad guy, when the store is in error. I do like shopping at Meijer, but I don't like being overcharged. Talking to other customers I hear the same complaints at that store. I have many receipts that I have kept over the years documenting being overcharged. Since Meijer does not want my business, I will shop elsewhere. I have always been professional to them and only pointed out the facts. Any advice or guidance on what a consumer can do from here?

I am sure it did not actually say, "shop somewhere else", I think you are leaving out a few detail.s

Sounds like you were tying to scam them.

What else did you want them to do beside's give you the right price and apologize?

Now I by no means like Meijer. But the reason you probably got sent that notice is because you are one of the few that takes advantage of the system. People will go through out the store, find things that are incorrectly marked and buy them anyways just for the scanner award. Heads up. Why don't you watch your groceries from now on instead of making money from the system by being lazy?

Here's the deal, 90% when items "ring up wrong" it is because customers aren't reading the sign. They will see the words "BUY ONE" and "GET" and assume it is a buy one get one free for, well practically everything within 25 feet of the sign. When in all actuality says, say, "BUY 1 gallon of milk GET 1 box of oreo's 50% off". Is it deceptive to embolden the words "BUY" and "GET" while the rest is typed in a smaller font, perhaps, but then again if the entire sign is read the entire situation could have been avoided. All I can tell you is, read the signs, actually READ the signs.

You say you told them "many times" -- if they were wrong that often, why did you keep shopping there?

and is it a specific location or the entire chain?

I can find at least one error on my groceries receipts from Meijer every time I shop there (once a month). I bet if everyone checked their receipt carefully, they too could find one. Isn't it someone's job to enter prices correctly?
