DirecTV Inc Complaint - Directv will cost you more than cable
PHILADELPHIA, PENNSYLVANIA -- Reasons not to get DirecTV:
1.) You WILL lose you signal and channels in the event of a heavy rain storm, snow storm, or even from a rumble of thunder in the distance. Despite their claim about weather not affecting service.
2.) You have to sign a one year contract which can only be canceled by paying a huge cancellation fee.
3.) Although they entice you with the free installation, and low monthly rates (1st year only), if you need any service done to the dish, you will have to pay. You will either have to extend your contract for another year, and pay about $5/month for "insurance", and pay about $15-20 for service; or you can pay a flat $72.00 for each service.
4.) If you call customer service, expect to be on hold for at least 20 minutes to an hour.
5.) You will miss out on certain sporting events. I live in the Philadelphia area, and the phillies are usually on Comcast during the week, which DirecTV does not offer. If you purchase the MLB extra innings package, you cannot watch any teams within your area.
I was charge a 70.00 fee to have someone come out and fix my dish because I had lost several of my channels due to a low signal strength. The employee who serviced the dish said the low signal quality was due to poor installation, and that the dish was not even screwed onto the roof. I called DirecTV to ask for a refund of the service charge being that it was their fault for the shotty installation. They said since it didn't happen within 90 days of the installation that they could not refund the fee. If something like this would have happened with cable, the service would have been free. I am not happy with their service, but I can't cancel my contract until my one year is up. At least when I had Comcast, and was fed up with their service, I could cancel at any time without incurring any additional charges.
All in all, if you live in an arid area such as Arizona, then DirecTV is for you.
