Amherst Animal Hospital Complaint - Withholding information about pet

Review by ch1cago on 2007-08-10
BUTTE, MONTANTA -- My dog had a hard time getting up and down with his back end so, I took him to this Animal Hospital in Butte, Montana. My dog was a 155lb. Husky mix named Klondyke, Dr. Clark at this Hospital took blood tests and x-rays of Klondyke's hips and then told me that it wasn't anything wrong with his hips that it was his back. Klondyke had Spondanosis and Secondary Neropothy which is spine disease and the nerves in his back end. The Vet. didn't bother telling me that there is not any cure at his age which is 10 years old and that he was only going to get worse. He told me that put Klondyke on a diet and put him on pain pills.

Klondyke was getting worse,He couldn't move this backend and just kept urinating on himself and every time he did that he would look at me cuase he knew it was wrong to do that in the house so, I had to keep telling him it was ok!
The following week I called the Hospital back to let them know he wasn't getting better and Dr. Clark was out for the week so Dr. Pettretti looked at Klondykes records and his technition told me about the Neropothy and that there wasn't any cure that he was going to get worse.

If I know all this I would have put him down then instead of him suffering more and for the family getting our hopes up that Klondyke was going to be fine. Instead I brought him home thinking he'd be ok and watched him get worse and suffer.

I want everyone to know that this isn't the first time this place has done something like this so I don't want other people that LOVE their animals to go though this kind of PAIN and SUFFERING.

Thank you for hearing what had happened and I hope there is someone out there that can help me with filing a compliant about this Doctor and Hospital

Sorry about the news. It would be your word against his, but you can try to tell your story.

He should of given you better information. But a dog that's over 7, is considered geriactric, and they start to come down with many illnesses.
There isn't a cure for what Klondyke has, (cool name), you can just make him comfortable, and do the best you can. I know how hard it is, and my thoughts and prayers are with you and him.

We had a Chow that had sort of the same problem,it got to the point where she couldn't walk without help.
Finally had to put her down.

I'm really sorry for your loss. I'm hoping to be a veterinarian some day and I promise to NEVER withhold this kind of information because I don't want animals to suffer. That's the reason you brought your dog to the vet in the first place! Shame on that veterinarian who gave you false hope! I hope you report him.
