World Toyota Atlanta Complaint - Rebate scam on dealership

Review by Boriskin on 2007-08-12
ATLANTA, GEORGIA -- I went to the dealership to buy Tacoma, agreed on the car for 21k total but the dealer added $750 rebate to my car price and deducted it after so my actual price happened to be not 21k but 21750. He just took my rebate from me. He was telling that he has to add rebate so it will be taxable but he took this money at the end so it looked normal way. I knew it was scam with this rebate but somehow he got me on this money but I realize it only on the second day.. that how it works? And he was telling me that he was working as a police officer for 17 years and he is not cheating on people. World Toyota in Atlanta. I am very upset.

Do I understand - he did this just so he could charge sales tax on the $750 and you are still going to be getting a rebate check from Toyota? I would call the Georgia Department of Revenue on Monday and see if the state of Georgia taxes rebates. If not, they need to refund the tax they charged you - if they refuse, get the Dept of Revenue to help.

I betcha the dealer gets the rebate. What they are supposed to do, if they are honest, is deduct the rebate from the final price - then you don't pay sales tax on the rebate. The salesman was doing smoke and mirrors to keep the rebate. Stay away from that dealership or know what the financials really are.
